Signing in
How do I sign in?
Go to Sign in, enter your email address, and we email you a link. Open the link and you are signed in. There is no password to remember.
Each link works once. It works best opened on the same device and in the same browser where you asked for it. If it has expired or was already used, ask for a new one. If you added the site to your phone's home screen and it opens on its own rather than in your browser, it keeps a separate sign-in that the link cannot reach: sign in from your browser instead, or remove the icon and add it again from your browser's Share menu with Open as Web App turned off.
The sign-in email has not arrived.
Give it a couple of minutes, then look in your spam or junk folder. Check the address you typed for a small mistake. If it still has not come, ask for a new link, or write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com.
Do I need to create an account?
No separate step is needed. The first time you sign in with an email address, your account is created. You can browse films without signing in; you sign in to rent, buy, subscribe or watch.
Watching
What can I watch on?
Any up-to-date web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, such as Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. Open the site, sign in, and press play.
There are no apps yet: nothing to install for iPhone, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV or smart TVs. Everything is watched in the browser.
Can I watch on my TV?
Yes, with AirPlay. In Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac, start the film and press the AirPlay button in the player to send it to an Apple TV or a TV that supports AirPlay.
Casting from Chrome (Chromecast) is not built into the player yet. You can also connect a computer to your TV with an HDMI cable and play the film full screen.
Are there captions or subtitles?
When a film has captions, a CC button appears in the player. Press it to turn them on, and choose the language if there is more than one. Not every film has captions yet.
How many screens can play at once?
Two streams can play at the same time on one account. If you try to start a third, the player says there are too many streams playing.
To free one up, stop a stream on another device, or go to your account page and press Stop next to the stream you no longer need. A device that was simply closed frees itself within about two minutes.
Does it remember where I stopped?
Yes. When you come back to a film, on any device, it picks up where you left off.
The picture is blurry or keeps pausing.
The player adjusts the picture quality to your connection as it plays, so a slow connection gives a softer picture rather than stopping. You can choose a quality yourself from the player's quality menu. If it keeps pausing, try a stronger Wi-Fi signal or a wired connection, close other things using the connection, or reload the page.
If it still will not play properly, write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com with the film, your device and browser, and what you saw.
It says a film is not available where I am.
Some films can only be shown in certain countries, because of the rights agreed with the people who made them. We check the country your internet connection comes from when you open a film, press play or pay. If you use a VPN, the country we see is the VPN's.
Can I download films to watch offline?
No. Films are streamed, so you need an internet connection to watch.
Renting, buying and pre-ordering
How do rentals work?
After you rent a film you have 30 days to press play, counted from release day if you rent it before it comes out. Once you start watching, you have 48 hours to finish, or until the 30 days run out if that comes sooner. Within that time you can watch it as many times as you like.
We email you a reminder if your 30 days are nearly up and you have not started, and another if your 48 hours are nearly up and you have not reached the end. More on rentals and refunds.
What does buying a film give me?
A film you buy has no time limit. It stays on your account to watch whenever you like, for as long as we have the right to show it in your country, even if it is later taken off the site.
Some films are also sold together as a package. Buying the package gives you every film in it.
How do pre-orders work?
You pay before the film comes out. On release day it unlocks on your account by itself, and we email you to say it is ready. You cannot watch it before then.
What does “Remind me” do?
For a film that is coming soon, Remind me adds it to My List and we email you on the day it comes out. It does not charge you anything.
Where do I find the films I have paid for?
Everything you can watch is on your account page. Open any film and press play.
Subscriptions
What does a subscription include?
Every film on the site, for as long as your subscription is active. New films are included as they are released. See the plans on the subscribe page.
How does it renew?
Your subscription renews automatically every month or every year, depending on the plan you chose, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel.
How do I cancel?
Go to your account page and press Manage billing. This opens a secure page run by Stripe, our payment provider, where you can cancel. You can cancel any time.
You keep watching until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. The same page lets you change your card and see your past invoices.
Do I need a subscription to rent or buy?
No. You can rent or buy single films without subscribing.
Moving from our old site
I had an account on the old site. What do I do?
Sign in here with the same email address you used there. Your films came with you and are on your account page. A rental keeps the end date it had on the old site.
I subscribed on the old site.
You can watch here until the date your old subscription was paid up to. To keep watching after that, subscribe here before then. You will not be charged here until that date. Your subscription on the old site is separate and keeps renewing until it is cancelled there, so cancel it before that date and you will not pay twice.
If you are not sure whether you are still paying on the old site, write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com and we will check.
I used a different email address on the old site.
Write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com from the address you want to use now, and tell us the one you used before. We will look it up and help.
Payments and receipts
How do I pay?
By card, on a secure checkout page run by Stripe, our payment provider. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach our site. If tax applies, checkout shows it before you pay.
How do I get a receipt?
We email you a confirmation when you rent, buy or pre-order a film, or start a subscription. Renewals of a subscription do not get an email from us: you can see and download every invoice, renewals included, from Manage billing on your account page.
Can I get a refund?
In some cases, yes. Rentals and refunds explains when, and how to ask.
Your account and emails
What emails will you send me?
Emails about your own account always: payment confirmations, rental reminders, release-day emails for films you pre-ordered or asked to hear about, and notices about your account.
News about new films and offers only if you said yes, by ticking the box when you signed in or on your account page. Every news email has a link at the bottom to stop it with one click, and you can change your choice on your account page.
Can I get a copy of my information, or close my account?
Yes, both from your account page. Closing your account ends any subscription and all your access, and cannot be undone. Our privacy page explains what we keep and why.
Contact us
Write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com. It helps to include the email address on your account, the film, and, for a playback problem, the device and browser you were using and what you saw on screen.
