What we keep about you, why, and what you can do about it. We keep only what we need to run the service, and we do not track you around the web.

Who we are

Indie Film Stream is run by Deverett Media Group, which is responsible for the information described here. For any question about your information, write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com.

What we keep

  • Your email address. It is how you sign in and how we reach you.
  • What you bought and when. Each order, its amount, and the date. If you have paid, we also keep the reference Stripe gives your customer record, so we can open your billing page for you.
  • Your access. Which films you can watch, from when and until when, and how you got each one: a rental, a purchase, a pre-order, a subscription, a gift from our team, or from our previous site.
  • What you watch. Each time you play a film: which film, when, and where you stopped, so the film picks up from there next time.
  • How playback went. For each stream, technical events such as how long the film took to start, when it paused to load, picture quality changes and error codes. We use these to find and fix playback problems.
  • My List. The films you saved, and whether you asked us to email you when a film comes out.
  • Your email choices. Whether you want news from us, and when and where you last changed that.
  • A log of emails we sent you. Which kind of email, its subject, when, and whether it went out, so we do not send the same one twice and can answer if you ask whether something was sent.
  • Changes our team makes to your account. For example, a refund, free access, or stopping a stream, with who made the change and when.

What we do not keep

  • Card details. Payments are taken by Stripe. Your card number goes to Stripe and never reaches our site.
  • Passwords. There are none: you sign in with a link we email you.
  • Your location. Some films can only be shown in certain countries. When you open a film, press play or pay, we look at the country your internet connection comes from to apply those rules, and we do not store it.

What we use it for

  • To sign you in, take payments, and let you watch what you have paid for.
  • To limit an account to two streams at a time, and to let you stop a stream from your account page.
  • To send the emails described below.
  • To answer you when you write to us, and to put things right, such as a refund.
  • To find and fix playback problems, and to see, in totals, which films are bought and watched.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies and your browser

We use only the cookies that keep you signed in. Without them you would have to sign in again on every page. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising trackers, and no tracking pixels.

The video player remembers your volume, whether sound was muted, and your caption language in your browser's own storage, so they are the same next time. That stays on your device and is not sent to us.

Emails

We always send emails about your own account:

  • your sign-in links;
  • a confirmation when you rent, buy or pre-order a film, or start a subscription (invoices for subscription renewals are under Manage billing on your account page, not emailed by us);
  • reminders before a rental runs out;
  • an email on release day for a film you pre-ordered or asked us to tell you about;
  • notices about your account or subscription, such as a change to how the service works.

We send news about new films and offers only if you said yes, by ticking the box on the sign-in form or on your account page. Every news email has a link at the bottom that stops news with one click, and you can change your choice on your account page at any time.

Companies that help us run the service

These companies run parts of the service for us and handle information only to do that:

  • Supabase stores our database and runs sign-in.
  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Cloudflare stores and delivers the video.
  • Stripe takes payments and runs the billing page for subscriptions. Stripe keeps its own records of payments under its own privacy policy.
  • Resend sends our emails.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is open. The technical playback events described above are deleted automatically after 90 days.

When you close your account:

  • all your access ends, any subscription is cancelled, and any stream that is playing stops;
  • My List is cleared and we stop sending you email;
  • your email address is removed from your account, from our log of emails sent, from the log of changes our team made, and from our record of payment notifications, and you can no longer sign in to it;
  • we keep a one-way fingerprint of your email address, a code that cannot be turned back into the address, so that moving customers over from our previous site cannot bring your account back;
  • the record of what was bought, and when, is kept for our accounts, along with the record of what was watched. Neither is linked to your email address any more.

Your choices

  • Get a copy. From your account page, download a copy of your account details, your access, your purchases, what you have watched, My List, and the emails we have sent you.
  • Close your account. Also from your account page. It cannot be undone.
  • Stop news. Use the link in any news email, or your account page.
  • Anything else. To correct something, or for any other question about your information, write to us at support@indiefilmstream.com.
